The DCAST mark on the Free plan: video mark and room chip

Two small marks name the platform on the content of a FREE account: a line of text with the site name in the picture of broadcasts, restreams and videos, and a Powered by chip in rooms. On STAR, PRO and VIP neither of them appears.

Who gets what

  • Video mark (plan flag brandWatermark): FREE only. STAR, PRO and VIP have a clean picture.
  • Room chip (plan flag roomBrandBadge): FREE only. Rooms of STAR, PRO and VIP show no chip.

The plan that counts is the plan of the account that owns the broadcast, restream, video or room, together with its active paid subscription if there is one. What a viewer or a guest has or pays never changes it.

The mark in the picture

On FREE, the site name of the site where the account was registered (for example dcast.tv or dcast.pro) is written in small white text in the top-right corner of the picture.

  • It is part of the encoded picture on every quality level of the player, at the same relative size and place. A viewer cannot hide it.
  • It is applied to live broadcasts, to restreams (both the player that viewers open and the stream pushed to the outside platforms) and to videos that are uploaded or imported.
  • A video that was processed while the account was on FREE keeps its mark. To get a clean copy after moving to a paid plan, upload or import the video again.

What decides it

  • There is no switch and no API parameter: DCAST decides it on the server from the plan, and the worker that encodes the picture is sent only a yes or no.
  • When the plan cannot be determined the picture is left clean, so a paying account is never branded by mistake.
  • Broadcasts, restreams and videos created with the Partner API follow the same rule as the ones made in the dashboard.

The chip in rooms

On FREE every room shows a small pill in the bottom-left corner of the page with the words Powered by and the site name. All participants see it, and clicking it opens the site in a new tab.

  • Rooms are not re-encoded, so nothing is written into their video: the chip is only a part of the page.
  • The room page receives only the site name to show, or nothing at all. It never receives the plan of the owner.

How to remove the marks

Move the account to STAR, PRO or VIP on the Billing page. There is nothing else to set: once the paid plan is active, new broadcasts, restreams, videos and room visits come without the marks.

Step by step

The same steps, with common problems and their fixes, are in the help centre: Remove the DCAST mark from your broadcasts and videos and Remove the Powered by chip from your rooms. The footer of a creator site follows a similar rule: Your name in the site footer.
